About me

Welcome to my blog were I will be posting current artwork, thoughts, ideas and more. I am currently a student in my second year at Sunderland University studying a degree in fine art. Prior to this I received a BTEC national diploma in art and design at Shiney row collage. The images currently on my blog are a new series of images based around portraits of the people who come in my part time place of work the burn inn a pub in Houghton le spring. When first starting this project my images were traditional sketchs and painting I wanted to move away from this style and create images that were fresh original and different to any portarits that i have seen before. I have experimented with many different mediums including print, sculpture, sowing etc. Sowing being a main medium of my works, as much as I liked this technique it was very time consuming and I was not able to be expressive, I then moved onto adding sowing to painting. I decided to make paintings with controlled vertical and horizontal lines to create the effect and texture of a sown piece I have experimented with color mainly being influenced by the work of Virginia Bodman who’s works with a lot of vibrant bold colours and the time of year being summer I used allot of bright yellows etc. Anther influential artist is  Naomi Ryder who is an illustrator who specializes in embroidery who’s works I believe are edgy, fun and loose. My work is currently being displayed in an exhibition in the Stanford Goudie gallery at the customs house in South Shields. The plan for my next project is to continue experimenting with colour, the consistency how the colours react/ bleed into each other and work together but moving away from portraits and concentrate on nature, animals landscapes etc. My research and raw material will be gathered from different parts of the country I plan to visit all of my old favorite holiday places collecting objects taking photographs and re living some exciting memories and creating some new exciting pieces of work.
